Been to a drive-in movie theatre lately? If not -- surprise, surprise -- some are reopening, others are expanding, and a handful are better and more popular than they ever were in their earlier years. That certainly applies to Prince Edward County's Mustang Drive-in. Picton-based illustrator extraordinaire, Carl Wiens, recently took his family for an evening of movies under the stars at the Mustang on County Road 1. Naturally, he brought his sketchbook along and scribbled down some notes about the experience. From Carl's blog, here's the end result:
Fabulous drawings. Honk your horns! As I a teenager in the wayback machine, horn honking was mainly done to divert attention for all the people sneaking in through the fields next to the drive-in. One Buck a Car Load was just too much fun. Dusk to Dawn nights were great during cherry picking season. Friday Midnights and scary movies were unreal on a hot summer night. We would go down to Morris' Supertest gas station load up on cheap eats and mix, put a couple of people in the trunk so our admission would be cheaper...and off we'd go to the Mustang a couple of miles away. Sure nice to hear that it's not only still going but now has two screens. Great stuff.
